FAQ
Frequently asked questions.
Straight answers about what PayRx does, how it works, and how it's different — for benefit leaders, brokers, and partners weighing high-cost therapy risk.
What is PayRx?
PayRx is a precision risk-financing and analytics partner that helps self-insured employers and health plans afford high-cost therapies — including cell, gene, and specialty medications. We combine predictive analytics, defined risk protection, and innovative financing so organizations can cover breakthrough treatments without destabilizing their health plan.
Who does PayRx serve?
PayRx works across the healthcare ecosystem: self-insured employers, health plans and captives, brokers and benefits consultants, and pharmaceutical companies. Each engagement is tailored to how that organization evaluates, funds, manages, and scales high-cost therapy programs.
What is “precision risk financing”?
Precision risk financing is PayRx's approach to paying for high-cost care. Instead of relying on backward-looking averages, we use population-scale claims data and clinical evidence to forecast catastrophic claims, define the exposure an organization keeps, and structure a funding path that spreads cost over time as clinical value is realized.
How does PayRx work?
PayRx follows a three-part model — Predict, Cover, Pay. We predict which members are likely to need advanced therapies and what value those therapies create; we define the protections and limits before coverage expands; and we provide financing that lets cost be covered while the value builds.
Is PayRx an insurance company or a stop-loss carrier?
No. PayRx is not a lender, insurer of last resort, PBM, or traditional stop-loss carrier. We are an independent partner that combines analytics, risk structuring, and financing — and we complement stop-loss rather than replace it. Where risk transfer or protection is appropriate, we help arrange it.
How is PayRx different from — and how does it work with — stop-loss?
PayRx complements stop-loss rather than competing with it. Traditional stop-loss isn't well-equipped for catastrophic, hard-to-forecast high-cost therapy claims; PayRx is purpose-built for exactly those — with no lasers or exclusions, the ability to deploy at any point in the benefit year, and forward-looking prediction instead of backward-looking averages.
What therapies does PayRx help finance?
PayRx focuses on the highest-cost therapies that traditional benefit structures struggle with — cell and gene therapies (often $2–$3M or more per treatment), GLP-1 medications across large populations, and other specialty drugs. The median annual price of newly approved drugs now exceeds $370,000, and PayRx is built for exactly this category.
Does PayRx use lasers?
No. PayRx uses no lasers or exclusions. Our model is designed to give benefit teams predictable, defined exposure rather than singling out individual high-cost claimants at renewal, and it can be deployed at any point within the benefit year.
How does PayRx predict high-cost claims?
PayRx combines big-data infrastructure with AI-powered predictive methods, drawing on population-scale claims history and longitudinal clinical evidence. This lets us identify, well in advance, which members are likely to need advanced therapies — and which interventions today lower the cost of coverage tomorrow.
Can PayRx actually lower our costs?
Yes — and the savings are meant to be plannable, not hypothetical. Because every recommendation is built on real claims history, clinical evidence, and actuarial modeling rather than assumptions, the savings PayRx projects are savings an organization can budget around.
How does PayRx fit with our ERISA and CAA obligations?
PayRx's programs are designed to work within your existing ERISA plan and CAA obligations and your current fiduciary structure, alongside your other benefit vendors.
